카누를 타고 캐나다 온타리오 주의 제일 높은곳 Ishpatina Ridge(해발 693미터)를 정복하다 http://www.cmkl.ca/ishpatina/ canoe trip 다섯명의 Canoest들이 5일간의 장정으로 온타리오의 지붕이라는 제일 높은곳 Ishpatina Ridge(해발 693미터) 에 도전하여 카누를 타고 올라가 정복한 도전적인 모험가들이 있다 Temagami에 위치한 Ishpatina Ridge 는 온타리오에서 가장 높은곳이다 해발 693미터나 된다고 하여 한국에 있는 산을 연상하면 오해다 mountain이라고 부르지 못하고 ridge라고 하는데는 그이유가 있다 어쨋든 이 다섯명이 카누를 타고서 온타리오의 제일 높은곳을 정복했다는 것은 내 관심을 끌기에 충분했다 Montreal River에서 카누를 타고 시작하여 Smoothwater Lake, McCulloch Lakes, Scarecrow Lake까지 간후 여기서부터 Ishpatina Ridge 까지는 하이킹 하여 정상을 정복하였다 카누의 노를 저어 호수를 지나고 캠프를 하고 카누를 운반하기도 하고 진흙밭에 빠져 고생도 하고 폭풍을 만나 비바람과 번개소리에 밤잠을 설치고 흠뻑젖어서 추위에 떨기도 했다는 여행기를 재미있게 읽었다 마지막날 집으로 가는 길목에서 전날밤 추위에 혼났으면서도 아이스크림을 사먹으며 다음 여행을 생각한다는 그들이 부럽다 . Intro This is the gripping tale of how five intrepid canoeists climbed the highest point in ontario. We overcame storms, isolation, hypoxia and a lot of mud in our quest to summit the famed and feared Ishpatina Ridge, in the northwest part of the Temagami wilderness area. I made up that bit about the hypoxia. Sorry. The previous sentences may also contain some hyperbole as well. The five day trip was organized as a YCCC flatwater trip, with three club members and two guests. We travelled just over 60km, including about 8km of fairly easy portages. The trail up to Ishpatina itself is gentle and not at all technical. Here's a brief summary: Day 1: wherein we get up insanely early, drive very far, then paddle down the Montréal River to Smoothwater Lake. Day 2: wherein we head south through Apex, Mihell (say My Hell), and McCulloch Lakes, to Scarecrow Lake and decide to hike the ridge. Day 3: wherein we paddle toward the Sturgeon River and discover the headwaters of the mighty Stull Creek before it starts to rain and we haul ass back to our campsite. Day 4: wherein we head back up the way we came, camping where the north end of Smoothwater Lake, where it drains into the Montréal River. Day 5: wherein after a good 12 hours of rain, wind, thunder and lightning we bundle up, throw everything in the canoes and scrape, claw and drag our way against a gale back to the access point, then drive all the way home to our warm beds.
